Drinking coffee may reduce risk of advanced prostate cancer.
Men who drank six or more cups of coffee a day had a 60% less chance of developing advanced prostate cancer than those who drank none say researchers from Harvard's Channing Laboratory. Drinking one to three cups a day lowered the risk by nearly 20%, four to five cups a day lowered the risk by about 25%. Researchers aren't sure what component of coffee is responsible but have ruled out caffeine - the results were similar for de-caffeinated coffee. The researchers did point out that the overall risk developing prostate cancer is not affected, just the risk of developing more aggressive forms of it. The research was presented at a conference of the American Association for Cancer Research in Houston.
