Detection: Check your prostate in 10 minutes

Men can now have a simple finger-prick blood test that checks for a marker of prostate cancer and can give the results in just 10 minutes.

Launched in Britain yesterday, the test needs only a drop of blood to look for prostate specific antigen (PSA).

The PSAwatch test allows the blood to be almost immediately analysed by a portable machine in a doctor’s surgery and can be carried out by nursing staff.

It uses a single drop of blood which is tested for PSA at a cost of about $100. The test has been approved for use in Europe and its go ahead in other countries is expected soon.
